Athletics Prizegiving

The most recent athletics season ran from late October 2011 to late March 2012. Prizegiving was held at Clayton Park School on Saturday, May 19th.

Although Laura was born before the end of the season, this was the first time the club had seen her, so she was very popular, to say the least! lol

I helped out again this year, getting the athletes from a certain age group in line, removing from the pile certificates for those athletes not in attendance, walking around the outside of the hall and bringing the group in again through the back entrance next to the stage. When either Terry or Albert was ready (they were presenting the awards), I handed the pile of certificates to him, and went to get the next pile and start the process again! I was pleased we only had a slight drizzle occasionally, otherwise I could have been quite wet!

Essie and I
Finally it came to my turn. "Bianca Jago: First in . . . {everything}, overall aggregate, total track, total field." [Yeah, I was the only person in my age group! haha] Honestly though, I'm not sure how one is supposed to carry that many trophies at once! :D

I think Diana and I brought home three trophies each . . . we're building quite a collection now!

After all the age groups had their certificates, the other trophies were awarded, i.e. Sportsperson of the year and others.

Once the award ceremony was completely finished, we could all go out the front for sausages, drinks, and ice blocks. It started getting cold and dark, so a few of us came inside to hang out, and were given a chocolate bar each...yummy!

Hanging out afterwards (sorry, I don't have a good pic)
Clockwise: Jarrod, Diana, Suzanne, Esther, Ruth, Monique, me

Fun Run 2012

Every athletics season our club holds a 'fun run' as a fund raiser. The athletes run as many laps as they can around the track in one hour. And well yeah, I kinda didn't do it this season!! But hey, I got heaps of photos instead :P Enjoy!

Grouping up around the start line

Middy, Mrs. Rakete, and Mrs. Bennet marking people.
The athletes get a mark each time the cross the start/finish line;
at the end of the night, the marks are counted to determine the
number of laps the athletes have run.

Katie (8) and Amy (7)

Bryce (4)

Joanna (4)

oops..she saw me! Danielle (5)

ok, so maybe instead of asking her to pose,
I should take a photo when she isn't looking?!?hehe
cute tho, right? lol

Joel and Essie

Mackenzie (4) and Matti run the sausage sizzle
After we arrived home for our awesome night at athletics, our neighbour Melissa dropped these in:

 Yes, they were delicious!!!

Athletics Prizegiving

Just quickly, here are some pics from Athletics prizegiving, for the season of 2010-2011.
I helped with lining up children and taking them around to the back door, and on to the stage when it was their turn. That is sooo difficult when no one listens to you..oh well, I was rescued when that happened so anyway shouldn't complain I spose.. ok and then after they've been presented with their awards you have to help them (mostly the younger ones) go out the right door and have their photo taken.

Diana being presented with her certificate and trophies. Can you see that
everyone just thinks she's the cutest?!? lol ok maybe I am a bit biased.. =D

Diana tries to balance all her trophies! ( She recieved three; one of which was the 'Champion of Champions')

Middy and me with our certificates et cetera
(I was the only one in my age group, hence all the trophies...lol!)
After all of this had finished we all lined up for free food...yumm!!! =D

We've all had a good laugh about this: it was the first prize-giving we were able to attend, Danielle and I had won one trophy each from past years, and Mum thought the irony of it all would be the one year we attended prize-giving we wouldn't win anything...we came home with six (I think) trophies in all...lol!

End of Atheletics Season

I've been REALLY busy with sch wk recently, and (as you all know!) haven't taken the time to post.
Hopefully I'll have time sometime soon to do a nice long post, but I thought I would stop by quickly now and tell you all the depressing news that tonight was the last night of athletics for the 2010-2011 season =( lol

This Week Part 1

Hey!

Monday this week we started school (at home!). It ended up being a full-on day, but still not managing to get all my work done =(

Tuesday was more school, while the others went to Drury Christian School to see if a violin they had was the right size for Monique (it wasn't).
Then going to my 3:30 flute lesson, before getting ready to go to athletics at 5:30.
I only had one friend at athletics that night  [ =( ], as quite a few people were away tramping (I hear they had heaps of fun!). We had Discus, 200m, High Jump (which I skipped), and 800m.

Wednesday the others went over to KBB Music in Epsom while I did school work, oh, and started a cheesecake, and put the dough on for chelsea buns.
Then we went to athletics training that night.

30 January to 4 February

Hi again!

Sunday we had the main communion service, so it started at 11am, and didn't finish until about 1:30/2pm.
When we got home (I think) we had roast chicken (made by Chef Uncle Pete!).
And church again at 7.

------------------
Monday was a public holiday, so after church we went to Omana Regional Park with our cousins, and Anne Roos and her brothers - Auke and Dieuwe whom we picked up, for a bbq. After the EVENTUALLY eating, the others played soccer (while I sat in the car txting!), then we all played cricket.
Then it was home time.

That night (after the others had been put to bed), we got all Bethany's stuff together and packed it; while watching Ever After.
------------------
And Tuesday morning we got up just before 5am (or I did, I think the others got up earlier!)  and took Bethany to the airport, to check in by 5:30! Since we got there later than we had planned, we missed out on breakfast at McDonald's =( ah well.
Yes, when we got home I did go back to bed, and woke up to Mum saying "oh no, you've got a flute lesson in five minutes..what shall I do?...*thinking*..I better ring your teacher.." That would've been at 10:55, but I went back to sleep, and when I got up later, found out that my flute lesson had been changed to 4pm...which was good cos I was wide awake by then, and was able to play much better than I otherwise would have.
Then that night at 5:30 we had athletics YYYYYAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!! lol
--------------------
Wednesday was spent at home, and that night we went to church cos we had a minister over from Aussie.
-------------------
Thursday was the Auckland Home Educators' Not-Back-To-School picnic at Cornwall Park.
One of my friends, along with some of her siblings and two of their friends brought their instruments and played some music for us. Thanks Wilsons and Campbells =)
And I saw a couple of other people who I hadn't seen for AGES, which was really nice.
The Scavenger Hunt was pretty cool too.
----------
Friday...ummm... another day at home I 'spose, most likely preparing for school and tidying up.

Okay I'm gonna leave it at that for this post.

Last week...Part 1

Monday last week (24th Jan) was a quiet day at home. (I think we probably played uno, etc!)

On Tuesday we went to the Auckland Museum, uggh (no I don't like museums lol!). It was kinda cool to see the native New Zealand bats though! (for those of you who don't know, I did a lot of study on bats a few years ago, and won 1st = in the Auckland Home Educator's Science and Technology Fair - in the observation category).
And they have four (live) rats in the children's section, which are so cute! One of the volunteers opened their cage while we were there too!!! lol

And that night we had athletics!!! - first night for the second half of the season. My age group (Girls 12+) did 100m, 200m, Discuss and High Jump.
We also found out that one of the coach's - a solo Dad of one son my age - had died earlier that day by electrocuting himself...so that kinda put a damper on things.

After athletics Dad took Bethany, another one of my friends - Rebekah, and I to a Cafe in Devonport for supper/dessert, after which we went for a walk along the waterfront.
Lol the cafe served hot chocolate in either a bowl or a glass, I decided to be adventurous and get the bowl! Which, of course, everyone else thought was a great joke. They kept teasing me about a straw not being big enough, and needing a garden hose ...etc...etc...etc...!

Wednesday was another quiet day at home, and that night Dad, Jarrod, Monique, Danielle, Diana and I went to athletics training while Mum took Bethany, Bryce and Maria to church.

Thursday morning we went to church at 11, and 7, and Anne Roos came over in between, while Mum went grocery shopping, and we watched a movie - Letters to Juliet, when the others got home we played uno before a quick dinner.

On Friday we went to the Sonnevelds' (homeschool friends) for afternoon tea. While there we tried target shooting (in the rain!) and yes, talked a lot.
Then it was dinner, and to church with Bethany and Uncle Pete at 7.
On the way back, we picked up the keys for work from Uncle Paul, but he wasn't sure if he had all the right ones, so we came home and got Dad's work keys, dropped me off, then Uncle Pete and Bethany went to work.
I then had to organise ironing..blah blah blah..and eventually got to bed just after midnight.

Stuff

Hey.

Well, today I finished the skirts I was sewing for Monique, Danielle, and Diana, and made purple net curtains to which are hanging in my room now:

And I was looking forward to athletics since it was a nice day..but that was canceled anyway because the track hadn't been marked =(

But tonight I recieved a couple of packages from one of my favorite companies - Vista Print. One was from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and the other one was from Singapore! No wonder postage is so expensive on the 'free' products! lol

And later tonight we get to go to the airport to pick up my friend Bethany from Australia. After I've done flute practice and fed the cats, done more tidying up and cleaning....blah blah blah!

I'm thinking of starting an ironing micro-business (idea from The Old Schoolhouse Magazine!). Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could call it? Any and all ideas appreciated =)

Well Mum wants me to look up must-do's in Auckland and Rotorua (we are probs going there with Beth on Sat), so I better go.

Hi Again...

Hi again everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted in ages =(

Last Saturday we had a BBQ with our church at Cornwall Park/One Tree Hill.

I have been making skirts (straight elasticated ones) for the girls, and today we bought fabric so I can make purple net curtains, and some of the fabric for purple drapes...I'll be busy...lol

This morning I had my first flute lesson for the year. It was supposed to be 10am, but me being me turned my alarm clock off, and didn't wake again until about 9:25, and of course, Mum being Mum, she had entirely forgotten about it.. so completely freaked when I asked if she had looked at the time recently...lol
So anyway she rung my teacher, and changed the time to 10:30am.. which thankfully we were on time for... =)
Next week's lesson is set for 11am, and hopefully we will be up in time!
We played a few duets - me playing flute (obviously!) and my teacher accompanying me on the piano..oh man, I didn't really need the reminder about how much I want to play piano.....
Yes, my teacher plays more than just flute - piano, oboe, recorder, ...and a few that I can't remember..!

Tonight was also supposed to be the first night (for the second half of the season) for athletics...but it has been raining and windy all day...so that got post-poned to tomorrow night...
Anyway it was fun having our friends the Sonnevelds' come over for an hour and a half to talk instead =)

WOW!!! I can't believe it's already tomorrow night that my friend Bethany arrives from Australia for ten days!!!! =)

Well I'm gonna leave it at that for now,
Luv,
Bee

Bryce's "Teasle"

Well, my friend Anne Roos got a maltese dog earlier this year, whom she named "Teasle."
And when Bryce saw this soft toy at the $2 he yelled "TEASLE" and insisted Mum buy it for him:

Anyway better go do flute practice and organise food to take to the Papakura Ribbon Day tomorrow (for athletics)

Athletics Fun Run

Hey!

On the 23rd of February this year, we had the 2009 - 2010 season Fun Run. This is when all us athletes find sponsors, then run as many laps of the 400m track as we can in one hour.
It results in many tired and sore people, but is heaps of fun!

Danielle's Group ready to start

Danielle, unknown, Katie Joy Aiken

Really bad photo of me............

Lined up accross finish line to
put a mark on people's arms to
show how many laps they have run.
We have the next fun run coming up on the 7th of December for the 2010 - 2011 season. Lots of training needed, i think!

Manurewa Ribbon Day

Hi Again,

On Saturday 12th December, our athletics club held their ribbon day.
It started at 10am. When we got there it was fairly cold, and looked like it would rain. Not to be put off, we started the program.
No, the girls in the 'Urban' tops are not part of the club, Ginni, the one in the green top lives in Whangarei, and had just come down for the day, so she came with Esther(orange), and Ruth(blue), to the ribbon day so she could see Miriama(in club uniform).
And no, i can't remember exactly what events we did.
I did the 100m.
Then discus, and after that Ruth, Esther and Ginni had to go.

Then we had lunch. While i was over near the club rooms it got really windy, and umbrella's went inside out, and 'flew' down the field. Then the rain came, pouring. We and some friends had set up under a gazebo - but roof only type thing, and that started blowing away, Mum and a few others who were sitting under it tried to crouch down while holding the edges of it and keep the rain off everything, and stop it from blowing away.
When the rain stopped, we went over, and everything was drenched. The adults tidied stuff into the cars, while the rest of us carried on with the program.
Hurdles had to be put off until the ground was dry.

Hey Presto, the sun came out - and because Mum, hadn't bothered to bring the sunscreen because it looked like rain, I got sunburnt, and my shoulders blistered. OUCH!!

Anyway, we had all the usual events, then a 4 x 100m relay, including a 'parents' team. Everyone got a lollipop upon completion.

Not long after, a whole lut of grumps [ =) ](us) went home to sit on the computer, etc.
Oh, and umm, the computer did get a little squashed, but it still works. LOL =)

Bee
PS: More photo's coming!!!

Weetbix tryathlon

Hey Everyone,

Well,
On December 9th, we got up REALLY early, okay, maybe not that early for some of you, i think it was about 7am.

We arrived at Mountford park just after 8:30am. The Rakete's (homeschool friends) were already there.
Music was loud while all the volounteers continued to set up for the Weet-bix Kids Tryathlon.

We set up gazebos, and unpacked nearly a whole van -load of STUFF, bikes, transition bags, sunscreen, pram, etc. It's amazing how much stuff you need for about 6 hours of fun!

We collected our race - packs (Weet-bix t-shirt, 'number' (for identification purposes), etc.), put our bikes in transition, then wandered around with friends while waiting for the tryathlon to start.

At 9:30 (?) Race briefing started - all the rules about the tryathlon(none of which are ever followed!) then we headed off to wherever we started from - swimmers getting into groups, then heading into the pool. I waited just outside transition with all the other cyclists. I waited for a little while (dunno how long) then hi - fived my friend Ruth, and ran off to my bike. Four laps around the track, then back into transition, exausted, and off to run, then I was finished!!!

On finishing, I  was presented with a medal by Debbie Tanner(???did i get her name right???), a certificate, ASB drink bottle, and red weetbix cap.

Then we wandered around, ran through the blow-up all blacks maze race thing, and waited for prize -giving.

Prizegiving. We all sat down to draw on each other with vivids of various colours, while numbers wher called out, and we waited, hoping that someone we knew would get one of the 2 avanti bikes!! Unfortunately none of us got anything. =)

We then signed each others shorts, before running around like crazy, asking random people to sign our shirts (and picking up any free food we could!)

Then we took our bikes out of transition, had heaps of photo's taken, and tidied up before heading home. Oh, and i nearly lost one of my brand new jandels, only we found it in a rubbish bag one of the volounteers had.

THen, of course, Mum had to ruin everything (well almost) by not letting us go to athletics training, instead taking us to work (not that we went until after training had finished anyway) Grrr.

Here are some photo's:

A successfull day, I think,

Going Away

We are driving to Wellington tomorrow (Dec 24th) and will come back on the 2nd of January.

Better go organise some food to take or something before athletics training at 6:30pm.

Season's Greetings and a Happy New Year to all of you!

Ron Keat Ribbon day

Hey everyone,

Today we went to the (Athletics) Ron Keat Ribbon day in Papakura. It started at 12 midday, and finished at 4:30pm.
At ribbon days you can do almost all events - missing the longest races. (2000m and 3000m).

I decided not to do, or missed everything except the 400m sprint. I think there was four of us racing, so I was given a ribbon with no placing on it. I think it was for trying, because I only just made it to the finish line - i started too fast, so didn't have the energy at the end.

Diana (4) ran 30m, 60m, and 70 or 75m. In the 30 and 60 she didn't start straight away, I don't think she realised she had to go when she heard the gun!
But in the 70/75m she started when she was supposed to and came 2nd!!

Running

With her 2nd place ribbon

We enjoyed the day - finished with ice creams!!, but not so much the sore faces from sunburn! (I didn't bother putting any sunscrean on, thinking that it wasn't hot enough to get burnt).

Now we get fish and chips for dinner, and probably will have to do all the chores and grocery shopping after dinner!

Athletics

Hey Everyone,

We had our first club night for the season tonight!!!
We weren't sure whether it would be on because there were lots of grey clouds.
But it went ahead, and there were a few homeschoolers trying it out for the first time, and some returning.

I did Discus, missed the 200m race, and ran the 100m. I threw 9.52m in Discus, and came 3rd - or last! in the 100m sprint. Both of those are an improvement on last year.

It started raining just after we had finished!

Diana (4) Did it for the first time, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Better go do flute practice,
Bee
